GYSF

The Gallup Youth Sports Fund (GYSF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to and enhancing the quality of youth sports in Gallup and McKinley County. By removing financial barriers and providing essential resources, we support both school-based and community programs, helping young athletes thrive on and off the field.

Why does GYSF focus on sports?

Some see sports as “extra”-we view them as elemental

Sports teach discipline, resilience, and teamwork in ways the classroom alone cannot. They build confidence, instill a sense of responsibility, and develop critical problem-solving skills. Physical activity isn’t just about movement—it shapes character, fosters emotional growth, and provides an outlet for stress. While academics are essential, sports equip kids with life skills that prepare them for success far beyond the game.

Why do Gallup & McKinley County Need GYSF?

McKinley County and Gallup, New Mexico, are rich in cultural heritage and resilience. Yet, beneath the stunning landscapes and vibrant traditions, many families face significant financial challenges. With 34.3% of families living below the poverty line and a per capita income of just $19,580 — nearly $24,000 less, or 54.8% lower than the U.S. average of $43,289 — even modest costs to participate in sports remain out of reach for too many kids.

The Gallup Youth Sports Fund (GYSF) was established to ensure that every child in Gallup and McKinley County has the opportunity to participate in sports, regardless of financial circumstances. We believe that sports are more than just games—they are a pathway to confidence, discipline, and lifelong success. Kids who play sports learn teamwork, perseverance, and leadership—skills that shape them not only on the field but in the classroom, the workplace, and beyond.”
